Activities on Amelia Island
There are numerous wonderful activities offered at Amelia Island Plantation. It is our goal to offer the best and most enjoyable experience you and your family can have.
Our resort offers countless ways to spend your days participating in activities that include The Spa & Shops, world-class golf, bicycling, tennis, fishing, award-winning youth programs, on-property and off-property nature tours and programs, Health & Fitness Center, and many more.
For those who love golfing, the Amelia Island Resort offers some of the best golfing in Florida. A “Top 121 Golf Resort in the World”, according to Condé Nast Traveler, Amelia Island golf courses offer 46 holes of championship quality between three courses for you to play on (including one short course). Plus, the resort also offers a fully stocked golf pro shop with an extensive collection of accessories and sportswear and equipment rentals, as well as private golf instruction opportunities. Afterward, you can end your day of golf with food and drinks at Marsh View Bar and Grill.
World-Class Golfing on Amelia Island Golf Courses
The three golf courses you can play are:
Designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 1987, the award-winning Long Point course is the primary golf course for members of The Amelia Island Club. Golfweek named it one of the “Top 50 Courses in Florida,” and it is one of Golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play.”
A par 72 with back-tee yardage of 6,775 yards, this course offers tight fairways, an array of natural hazards (including eight water hazards), and elevated greens. While playing, you’ll wind through three distinctive and spectacular settings: beautiful salt marshes, thick pine and oak forest, and breathtaking oceanfront dunes (where you’ll find the distinctive back-to-back par-3 holes.
Guests of Omni Amelia Island Resort can reserve tee times a day in advance, based on availability.
Built in 1972, the 18-hole Oak Marsh Golf Course is a classic Pete Dye-designed course. This course, which is open to the public, is noted for its narrow fairways winding through expansive salt marsh creeks and moss-draped oaks, with small greens. The course was kept as natural as possible with coquina shell cart paths and the preservation of native plant life.
On this 6,500-yard par 72 course, you’ll find 14 holes with water hazards and multiple bulk-headed greens. To add to the challenge, a variety of bunkers are dotted throughout the course.
Winding around Red Maple Lake, this Beau Welling-designed walking course (no golf carts) offers 10 holes ranging from 30 to 125 yards, as well as an 18-hole putting course. Little Sandy provides a fun-focused experience for golfers of all ages and abilities.
Along with waterfront views, the course also offers native grass areas, dunes, and areas within a diverse wildlife habitat.
The goal of this course was to create an environment that promotes community and camaraderie while offering families and those new to the game a playable and fun day. But even more experienced golfers will find a challenge in the bold and contoured greens. For example, the challenging island green on the final hole helps to close out the 10 holes in a dramatic fashion.
This course does not take reservations and is walk-in only.

Along with great golfing and tennis, Amelia Island also offers a wide variety of additional outdoor activities, both in and out of the water. Some of these fun activities include:
Horseback Riding Tours on the Beach
One of the best things about Amelia Island is its 13 miles of untouched beaches. Why not explore it on horseback? With a guided horseback riding tour from Amelia Island Horseback Riding, you can ride along the shoreline and through the forest for an unforgettable experience.
Visit the Amelia Island Nature Center
Located on the Amelia Island Resort property, the Amelia Island Nature Center aims to connect visitors with the local environment and its wildlife in fun and educational ways.
The on-site naturalists aim to educate visitors on the natural wonders of the local area. They offer a variety of family-friendly guided tours, including:
Nature Segway Tour
Eco Bike Hike
Stand Up Paddleboard Tour

At the Nature Center, you’ll also find a fully stocked retail shop offering field guides, top-of-the-line binoculars, fishing poles for rent, and more. You can also visit with the rescued local critters that are housed on-site.
Explore the Historical Fort Clinch
Located just a 19-minute drive North of the Amelia Island Resort area, Fort Clinch is one of the best-preserved forts in the country. Although no battles were fought at this fort, it was garrisoned during both the Civil and Spanish-American wars. It was also occupied by Federal troops during WWII.
Sitting within a 1,400-acre state park, not only can you explore the rich history of the fort itself through its guided tour, you can also enjoy winding trails, biking, hiking, beachcombing, swimming, and sunbathing on the park’s grounds. For those who enjoy camping, there is one campground area at the beach and another at the river, both offering overnight accommodations with full facilities.
Take Advantage of Excellent Offshore Fishing Conditions in the Amelia Island Area
If you enjoy chartering an open-water offshore fishing excursion, Amelia Island offers a variety of guided fishing trips off the coast provided by some of the most experienced charter captains in the area.
Most of the offshore trips on offer last a full day and take you anywhere from 8 to 20 miles (or more) off the coast. Once offshore, be prepared to focus on quality versus quantity. Large wahoo, tuna, marlin, amberjack, and shark are plentiful in the North Florida area, but it can sometimes take hours to bring a large one in. So patience (and strength) will be needed. But you can be confident that your charter captain will make your day on the boat a memorable one.
Surf the Waves of Fernandina Beach
For a more adventurous activity, you can feel the thrill of riding the waves at Fernandina Beach. The main surf spot, aptly referred to as “Main Beach,” has fairly consistent surf throughout the year. Under the ideal wind and swell direction, Main Beach offers a fun, rideable wave for all skill levels.
This spot sees the best waves during offshore winds from the West and with a groundswell coming from the Northeast.
If you or your child have never surfed before (but want to) or are new to surfing, there are some great professional surf lessons available in the area. Check out the private lessons on offer from the local surf shop, Surf Asylum. In their beginner sessions, they teach about the surfboard’s different parts and their function, proper paddling and pop-up techniques, ocean awareness, and water safety. They also offer advanced lessons for those wanting to progress their skills and improve their surfing technique.
